A Day on the D-Day Beaches — A Solemn Itinerary in Private

15 April 2026 10 min

How to honour Omaha, Pointe du Hoc, the American Cemetery and the Caen Memorial in one curated day, conducted with the discretion that history demands.

Of all the journeys we orchestrate in Normandy, the D-Day private tour is the one we approach with the deepest care. It is not a destination — it is a pilgrimage. And the chauffeur who conducts it must understand that, beyond protocol, beyond punctuality, what is required that day is silence at the right moments.

The itinerary

A standard D-Day day begins at 8:30 in Bayeux, where many of our clients overnight at the Domaine de Bayeux. The first stop is the Bayeux War Cemetery — quieter, less photographed, deeply moving. From there, the route follows the coast: Arromanches and the remains of the Mulberry harbour, Longues-sur-Mer and the still-standing German batteries, Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Pointe du Hoc, and finally Utah Beach. Lunch is taken privately, often at a small auberge in Port-en-Bessin.

The Caen Memorial — the afterword

For clients with the time, we end the day at the Mémorial de Caen — the most important museum of the 20th century in France. A private guide can be arranged in advance, allowing access outside opening hours when the institution agrees.

On the role of the chauffeur

The chauffeur on a D-Day day is more than a driver. Several of our chauffeurs are former military or descendants of veterans; many have spent years guiding families of fallen soldiers to the precise grave they came to find. They know the rhythms — when to pause, when to advance, when to step away to let a family weep.

« The cemetery rows are perfectly aligned. The sea behind them, indifferent, is what gives the place its weight. »

Honouring the place

We do not photograph our clients on the beaches. We do not announce our arrival. We do not ask the chauffeur to recite history he has not lived. The day is yours. We carry you through it.
